March 1st

I now have a "pre-pregnancy" appointment at the prenatal diagnostic unit at my local hospital scheduled for March 1st.
I now have to gather all of my medical records and fax them over. While I am eager to look at my medical records, I am not so eager in the process of obtaining them. I wonder if the offices will be able to get them copied and mailed by the time my appointment rolls around. I also hope I do not have to go to said Dr.'s offices in person because of HIPAA. (I'm fearful they won't let me request records over the phone...but maybe.)
I upped my Met dosage and am now taking 2 a day. Eventually I will get back to 3 a day, but right now my body is still adjusting to the increase. I will say it has taken the edge off of my constant hunger that has came around lately.

I'm on my way to my RE's office for a pregnancy test (which I know ill come back a BFN) but also have to ask for my medical records. I'm scared! I know they have to give them to me but I also know they'll want to know why I'm switching docs. Everyone there is super nice, which is why I feel bad. But they also haven't knocked me up yet, so...

You can probably get away with not going in if they can fax you a HIPAA form to sign that you can fax back. Good luck!

What do they do at a pre-pregnancy appointment? Is it just to get you "in" at a new doc?

Getting medical files is so ridiculously difficult. I can't believe how stubborn some offices can be!

Hi!!! You should be able to request medical records by fax (although most of the time not phone). Most offices want your ok to release records on their specific form (which they can do by fax) to cover themselves in case of any HIPPA stuff. At my hospital they charge for a patient to come and pick up their own records and I'm pretty sure it can add up pretty quickly (try 50 cents to $1 per page!!!) But they will fax to another physician's office, etc for free as a professional courtesy. If they give you a hard time you can always claim its a "continuity of care" issue. Hope that's helpful. Best of luck on your records roundup!!!
