Gestational diabetes.
Really?
Ugh.
I feel like such a failure.
Fasting 89 (They like it less than 95, so I was fine)
1 hour 192 (They like it less than 180..big fat FAIL)
2 hour 178 (They like it less than 155...even bigger fat FAIL)
3 hour 131 (They like it less than 140, so I was fine again)
2/4 = FAIL
I have to attend a "Diabetes in Pregnancy" class, test/log my blood sugars several times a day, see a nutritionist, and then have WEEKLY appointments at my doctor's office.
And just today I thought, wow..."I'm a pretty normal pregnant person."

Hello Second Trimester!
So nice to be in the second trimester. Today marks 14 weeks. Our appointment yesterday went well. We got to meet the second doctor in the practice. By the tie this pregnancy is over, we will have met with all 5 women. I love that our clinic is an all women clinic. They are young too, which I appreciate.
As soon as we got there, they gave me my glucose drink. (Fruit punch flavor this time.) It tasted like a melted Popsicle stick and burned my throat as it went down. Then we went back for my appointment. According to their scale, I have gained 1.5 pounds during this pregnancy. Score one for the team! (Please note, I will gain whatever I need to gain for this baby. I'm just enjoying the time now when the gain is minimal, since I know it will come later.)
Dr. F was able to find the heartbeat right away (in the 150 range and totally perfect). She did tell me that my urine had ketones. Ugh. She said you look like you are dehydrated. Let me tell you, I drank enough water yesterday to float away. I am not dehydrated. So then it made me think it could be related to my blood sugar. I really, really don't want to be gestationally diabetic. No thank you. After B came home and did some google searching, she said it could be a number of reasons: dehydration, gestational diabetes, insulin resistance due to hormones (hello! I have PCOS), not enough calories (this is B's guess since she thinks I do not eat enough), or not enough carbs. I am hoping the bloodwork will be able to tell us something a little more.
Our next appointment is combined with our gender u/s. It is SIX WEEKS away! I won't see a doctor for another month and a half. By then I will be 20 weeks. I am sure everything will be fine. I am looking forward to begin to feel the baby soon.
Oh, and I told the other two teachers on my team this week. They were superdy-duperdy excited. I still have to tell our para-pro and then the principal. I'm not a fan of telling the principal. Although, I'm sure I could be 9 months pregnant, as big as a house, and he would probably still not have a clue. He's rarely around this year, since he is now the principal of two buildings, so catching him will be hard. We will see, I guess.

A bulleted post
I will update soon-ish, but for now, bullets
- Betsy is finally home safe (but her replacement flight home had to make an emergency landing in Pittsburgh because it hit a flock of birds). This put her home even later than expected.
- Summer school ends tomorrow. We will have a big family picnic with pizza. As much as I enjoyed summer school this year, I am glad it will be over shortly
- This weekend we are supposed to go away for a mini-vacation/birthday trip for B. Now I am not sure if it is happening or not.
- Tomorrow is our Tastefully Simple party. This will also be the first time many people will see our new house.
- Next week is Child/Teen week at church, in which I am partaking. It is a week-long training that will go toward my Certified Spiritual Educator certificate.
- Today is 11DPO. I went to the research doctor yesterday for my CD28 check-up. He said my lining looked great (12) and it looks like I ovulated from my left side.

CD3
Today is CD3. This will hopefully be my last cycle on our own before the study. They have all of my paper work, so I hope to hear from the nurse sometime next week.
I am going to be an expert charter this cycle. I am not forgetting to put anything down, including my meds. I even created new check boxes for my vitamins, folgard, and baby aspirin.
When I get my first high on the CBEFM I will begin using OPKs. Last year, at this time, I was in the TWW that would produce Sprout. Wouldn't it be ironic if we became pregnant and got admitted to the study at the same time. I'll take the irony. Really. I will.

Possibly CD1
Today may or may not be CD1.
Based on my temps I did not ovulate, so this could just be "breakthrough bleeding" and not my period. It's light and spotty right now, so we will see.
All of my paperwork was faxed into the University for the PCOS study today. Hopefully they will get back to me shortly and we can get this party started. I sure hope I qualify.

January 29, 2008/January 29, 2010
I was looking back at my cycles for one in which I had a very late ovulation. Funny enough, the last time I had a very late ovulation like this cycle was 2 years ago to the date.
During that cycle, I ovulated on CD48 (which would be today). I have had a few signs suggesting impending ovulation, but the OPK is still negative. It got dark for a while and then lightened up considerably. It started getting dark again yesterday. We will see.
God has perfect timing.
The PCOS nurse researcher who approved me over the phone is just waiting for my consent forms and then she will take my case to the doctor. If he approves me to be a part of the study then my first visit has to be during my period. Gotta love those CD3 u/s...yuck. So this timing could be perfect.
I haven't been commenting on many blogs lately. I'm still reading, really I am.

A new round of positives
I've had at least 3 blogger friends get their BFPs in the last two weeks....here's hoping everyone that is trying can follow suit.
I feel like we haven't tried in forever, but it's been less than a month. I am still waiting for this cycle to end. I am on CD46. My temps have been erratic, so I am just waiting for the cycle to end. I can't wait to start up again. I am sending in my paperwork for the PCOS study today, so perhaps it is good that my body is waiting. They probably will want to do some early cycle bloodwork anyway.
Everything is moving in the right direction.

Waiting...
Waiting for test results....they should be available in a couple of weeks.
Waiting for ovulation...I'm currently on CD40something (see, I've lost track). Since I am heading off to a conference on the other side of the state, I have also decided to stop temping and OPKing while I am there.
Waiting to hear about a medical study for women with PCOS...this would mean free u/s monitoring, clomid or new drug to induce ovulation, bloodwork, etc.
Oh, and waiting for May 1st. (When B gives me the go-ahead to talk about it, I will share....but I haven't asked her yet.)

Happy March!
Spring is coming! Spring is coming!
Of course it doesn't mean that the snow is over, but I can feel Spring in the distance. Our winter hasn't been horrible with the amount of snow, or even the cold temperatures, but I am still ready for Spring!
Today is my appointment with the Maternal and Fetal Medicine doctor. I am hoping to get some testing done and possibly some drugs. If she can switch me to Metformin Xr, I will be most grateful. Also, I know she's not an RE, but if she can save me a trip to another doctor and prescribe me some provera to jump start my period and some clomid to help with the next cycle, I'd appreciate that too. The worst that can happen if I ask is she says no.
Today is CD32. I don't think I have had a temp shift (I stopped temping last week), but I guess I should take one BBT this week to determine what phase/stage I am in in my cycle.
I guess only time will tell...or a fancy ultrasound, but I don't have one of those machines. (Wouldn't that be nice though? We could do all the fertility monitoring we want!)

Trying
I'm trying not to be fearful that this cycle is a bust, but the paranoia and disappointment is creeping up on me. Today is CD26 and I still have not had a temp shift. Our last insem was on Sunday, CD24, so technically if I ovulate today we could still have a chance of getting pregnant. I think that is unlikely though. I haven't had a positive OPK since CD19. My OPKs were dark, but not positive. Yesterday's was getting lighter.
NKD is out of town until March 6th. My pre-pregnancy appointment with the new high-risk doc is on March 1st. I am going to ask about being put back on the Clomid. I am also now on 3 a day Metformin. (and oh how my body hates me for that)

Another one
We are doing another insem this evening. I still haven't had a temp shift, and I am convinced that the positive OPK on CD19 was just a false positive due to my PCOS. I'm expecting another positive OPK today, so the timing should be right on. I don't think this will be a false positive either.
Fun times.
3 cheers for a very accommodating donor!
We are expecting another 4-8 inches of snow tonight (I know it's nothing compared to the snow that has walloped the east coast this winter, but ours was just beginning to melt!) I don't really want a snow day (seeing how I am already out 3 days this week due to meetings), but I really don't want to drive in the nasty weather either. Whatever happens, happens, I guess.
I leave you now with a bible verse from today's Daily Word:
Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.--Mark 11:24

Coupon Queen
So, I admit it, I am a fan of saving money. Not saving money in a bank, per se, but getting things on the cheap. Some may call me a penny pincher, frugal, or even cheap. I really don't take offense to those titles at all.
Last night we made a stop at CVS for B's anti-vertigo prescription (poor girl's been walking around dizzy for quite a while now and just went to the doctor for a script). I love shopping around at the drug store.
I scanned my shopper card at the little kiosk and got some coupons. I added those to the ones I already had in my purse and began perusing the store.
This is what I got:
4 packages of valentine's day slinkies (for my students next year)
2 packages of cvs brand tissue
1 hair dye kit...the fancy kind
2 packages of life savers candy (the bag kind-again for my classroom)
1 bottle of body wash
After all of my coupons and $3 in extra care bucks, she told me my total.
$1.44
Even the cashier was shocked and said, "You did some good shopping!"
I love it.
No temp shift today. I am guessing that the positive opk on CD19 was a false positive due to the PCOS (I did a lot of internet browsing today to see that a lot of fellow PCOS women get false positives.) I just don't know how I will ever know when it is a REAL positive then. I emailed NKD to see if we can do an insem this weekend. I will continue to test with OPKs and hopefully will ovulate at some point. CD25/CD26 is right around the corner, so those are the other 2 days when I "typically" ovulate.

5th insem
Today we are doing our 5th insem of the cycle, but really only the 2nd one that will "count."
I was able to see the LH surge up, and now down again. The monitor never went to PEAK, but I am not worried about that. It's my first month back on the Met, so it may be confused.
I have exactly one CBEFM stick left. I will use it tomorrow morning and will not buy more until we are trying for Baby #2.
Say it with me, "This one will work."
A lot of my blog friends are pregnant with their second babies, have second babies in their arms, or are thinking about trying for second babies. I'm still waiting....I know there are a few of us out there, still waiting (*waves* to you, and you...oh, and you too), so let's get this show on the road.
2010 is my year. Is it yours too?

OPK
Based on the OPK today, I am guessing tomorrow will be a PEAK on the monitor, or at least a severely positive OPK.
I am thinking that being on the Met screwed with the monitor, which gave me my early HIGH.
Hopefully NKD will be available for another insem sometime in the near future. If not, we know that God has perfect timing, and perhaps we will get it right next month.
I'm ready to be pregnant again. (Just in case anyone was wondering.) =)

The Met.
Today is day 7 of this cycle, and day 7 of being on "The Met." (Met. for.min)
I am doing ok, but it is still giving me stomach distress. I believe it is the ultimate diet pill, because if I eat too much, I'm in the bathroom. If I eat the wrong kind of stuff, I'm in the bathroom. I haven't quite figured out the right balance of foods yet to keep me out of the bathroom. I was thinking of going up to 2 pills tomorrow (working my way to the 3 a day I was on before), but I do not think my body is ready. I believe I will know when I know.
If you are the praying type, please keep my friend L in your prayers. She is currently visiting NYC and got some horrible news about her father. He is now in ICU and needs all the prayers he can get. I know that she would appreciate it.
Christmas was good. Hope everyone is enjoying their time with family. Only one thing could have made this year even better, but I know 2010 will be the year to remember!

CD14
Today was day 5 of HIGH on the CBEFM. If I was "normal" I would have a PEAK tomorrow. OPK was not positive today. Darker..but not positive.
I have decided to keep all of my OPK and CBEFM to compare day to day. I love obsessing.
Speaking of obsessing, I cannot obsess over my temperature for the next day or so because Mr. Jakerpants decided to chew mine to bits. He even chewed off the tip. I need to purchase another one, perhaps tomorrow.
My friend who we purchased our crib from a while ago (in fact, we still owe her some money on it), would like us to pick it up from her house this week. She wants the space in her house, and it is totally understandable..just a bit unexpected, on the week of our EDD...
I've been a bit emotional lately, with the holidays (which I am not in the spirit for), the EDD, babies being born, being sick, etc....I'm hoping it gets better soon. Hopefully once we are in another TWW, I will have something to keep my mind occupied. And then the new year will start...and it will be a blank slate. 2010 will be our best year yet.

Bust
I am fairly confident that this cycle is a bust. Stupid post-miscarriage hormones. For a few days, the OPKs were dark...one was almost positive. Then yesterday, nuttin'. Stark white. Oh..and I started SPOTTING. On CD14. WTH?
My CBEFM still says high, so clearly I am confusing the machine as well. This would explain my weird temps this time around. Normally, my cover line is around 97.7. You can see by the chart below that I spent 4 days well above that cover line...normal temps for my luteal phase, not the follicular one. Then the giant temp drop-typical AF precursor. Eh.

I guess the good thing about a short cycle is you get to hop right back on the horse again in a few weeks.

Bondage-not that kind!
We are free from bondage of our past.
B and I are taking a couple of classes at our church. This message resonated with me. I have been fearful of becoming pregnant again. Now don't get me wrong, I cannot wait, but I am so scared of losing another baby. This, of course, is based on my prior experience, not what I know is True. I need to remind myself of the Truth that I am a mother and the most perfect baby (ies) will come to our family in time. I do not need to compare any future pregnancies and/or children with our Sprout experience. I will stay positive. I will not let my past experiences hold me back.

- Beta from Saturday was 17. I go again this Saturday. The ladies at the hospital know me now.
- I have stopped bleeding.
- I got a condolence email today from a friend I haven't seen.
- I stopped taking the met.form.in because it was making me sick. I will try again on Monday, one pill a day until I feel better.
- Summer school starts on Monday.

Is it hot in here?
So yesterday was my last day on Clo.mid, but today was my first hot flash...weird eh?
I have had little to no side effects this time, contrary to last month's sobfest.
The hot flash, which decided to rear it's ugly head again as I type this, started in Target. At first I just thought it was hot in the store. I repeatedly asked B, but she was totally fine. I didn't even put two and two together until she reminded me.
In other TTC news, my left ovary has been pinching and cramping today. Hopefully she's just cooking away some nice eggs.
My CD14 ultrasound is on Tuesday and I am getting excited. This cycle better not get canceled...
I am hopeful though, because my CBEFM has given me a high reading these past two days (CD9 and CD10). The last time I had a high on day 9, I ovulated at a semi-regular time. I start the OPKs tomorrow...oh, and I've been temping too. Gotta love that 4:20am BBT alarm!
