What is your experience with In.stead cups? This is coming from someone who has worn like 2 tampons her entire life... I bought a box of 24, and we plan on practicing, but I'm a little scared.
I had to look them up to see what exaclty they were... looks interesting! I have no clue how to use it, but I figured that I'd lend some cheering! :) have fun with those!
I've used them for years for my period, in addition to now using them for TTC. They're not hard, but definitely take some practice. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
I've tried them... They don't quite work for me. I could never get them positioned properly. Maybe its because my cervix is weird(I had an OB comment once that it is "on the right"). OR, maybe now that I've been checking internally for CM and am more familiar with my cervix I could do a better job.
I would recommend seriously feeling around and getting the lay of the land internally and imagining where and how it should go before just trying to insert one.
I haven't used them for period purposes -- just used them for TTC.
Putting the instead cup in filled with sperm did NOT work for us -- just ended up spilling the sperm in the way in... possibly because we were working with a larger volume because our fresh sperm was combined with test yolk buffer for shipping.
What did work -- put sperm in near cervix, then pop in Instead cup when you want to get up. Leave it in for a few hours or however long you want to keep sperm up by your cervix. When you take the instead cup out, it's still filled with plenty of liquid, so this definitely works to hold in sperm.
I used Instead for years. I Hate tampons and am a fan of Lunapads, but sometimes I just felt better having more protection. What I love about them is that it collects your fluid instead of absorbing. You can leave one in on your heaviest day for 4-6 hours and up to 12 hours on lighter days. I do notice that my bladder has to be emptied more often and when I pee with one in, it doesn't flow as much and can take me forever to pee. Like a cow. But not uncomfortable or anything. Early on when I was still figuring out how to place it, it popped out on me a couple times when I got up from sleeping overnight. Very dramatic and gross! We used them a couple times ttc and I hated it. Definitely didn't work for us, but I've heard lots of people say they liked using it with insems.
