I've never attempted this NaBloPoMo thing before, but I will this year.
I hope to share with you a little story about myself, my life, or my friends each day of this month. Tonight I will start with a story that my students love to hear each year.
The Night I Left My Sister at Church
When I was a kid, my sister and I used to attend a Wednesday night children's program at a local church. My parents never attended, but would drop us off. I loved AWANA so much that I would invite my friends from school. One night, my friend Alexandria and her brother Robert were going with us. My mom drove us all to church and Alex's mom was to pick us up. After services, Alex, Robert, and I all hopped into her mom's truck. (We were all around the same age, so we were together most of the night. My sister, on the other hand, was 5 years younger, so she was in a different room.) Anyway, when I was dropped off at home, I walked up to the front door to see my former drill-sergeant dad standing in the lighted doorway with his arms crossed. He looked down at me with his threatening eyes and said, "Did you forget something at church?" I looked in my hands and saw that I had both my AWANA book and my bible. "No, I have everything..." "What about your sister?" Well my eyes got big and my mouth dropped to my chest. I was terrified. My dad quickly informed me that my mom was already on her way to the church to pick her up, since the leaders had already called. That was a night I will never forget, and neither will my sister.
